ROOT

ROOT is an immersive, interdisciplinary dialogue with place.

Place is an embodiment of community, knowledge & communication. Place is a holding, a tending, an enquiry into past, present & future. What happens when we pay attention to a place? When we stop & listen. What happens when we give ourselves permission to be led back into connection, back into an ecology of place? ROOT is an interdisciplinary course that combines theoretical rigor with expansive, explorative practice. We will cover the territories of Ethnobotany, Herbalism, Mineral Pigments, Botanical Pigments, Ink Making, Paint Making, Chalk & Charcoal, Cordage, Wild Food, Foraging, Wild Fermentation, Wild Drinks, Fire Ceremony whilst also tending to the scholarship of indigenous thinkers, complexity theorists, cultural theorists, deep ecologists, poets, geologists & artists. Collectively, we will traverse the landscape of ROOT through an offering of  in-person & online meetings.

Reading lists, exercises & a list of equipment needed will be sent to participants prior to the course starting.

For those who opt for studying online, learners will be sent bundles of pigments, botanical extracts, plants & other materials to use throughout the course. Bundles & reading lists will be sent 28 days before the course start date to ensure folk have sufficient time to equip themselves with necessary items.

We offer this course on a sliding scale basis to make it accessible to people on a variety of incomes & situations. We ask that participants pay what they can afford. We won’t ask for proof of income, but trust you to select what you feel is most appropriate for you and help us to continue our community work in under-serviced areas. The higher course rates help to enable us to carry out our core work providing low cost herbalism to people on low incomes.
